Convert to PDF/A creates a PDF/A-2b archival copy of a document on your computer. PDF/A is the ISO standard for long-term preservation: a self-contained file with embedded fonts, a declared colour profile and no external dependencies, so it will render the same way in twenty years. OléPDF first runs a local preflight that tells you whether the file already meets the common requirements, and then, if you ask for it, produces a visual archival copy that carries the official ICC sRGB2014 profile and the PDF/A-2b identification.
It is aimed at archives, legal and public sector workflows and anyone asked to deliver a PDF/A: a tender submitted to a portal that only accepts archival PDFs, invoices that must be kept for years, a thesis deposited in an institutional repository, or a signed contract stored for the long term.
The conversion is visual by design. Each page is rendered at 150 dpi over a white background, stored as a JPEG at quality 0.9 and placed on a page of exactly the original size, so appearance, page count and dimensions are preserved. That approach removes every source of non-conformance at once, unembedded fonts, transparency groups, scripts, encryption, but it also means the copy is a set of images.
The preflight is a structural check for the blockers that most often make a file fail as PDF/A. It is not an independent certification. OléPDF's generator is tested with veraPDF, the reference validator, each time it changes, and every copy you create is re-checked locally before download, but if your archive or a public body requires formal proof, validate the delivered file with veraPDF or another ISO validator.
Reading the file, checking its structure, rendering the pages and writing the archival copy are done by libraries running in your browser tab. The colour profile is bundled with OléPDF. Nothing is uploaded and no third-party service is called, which matters for exactly the kind of documents that get archived: contracts, records, financial and legal files.
